I have to start out by saying I loved this book. I've read many, many thru hiking books and what makes this one unique is the struggle to thru hike during the Covid Lockdown. With so many rumors and false information being spread during this time period, it's nice to finally read what it was truly like for someone on trail during it all.The author does a fantastic job of presenting the difficult decisions thru hikers were forced to make because of outside pressure. He also shows how safe the trail was when the world was turned upside down by sometimes incorrect and ever changing information at the beginning of the pandemic.My ONLY criticism is that the book needed to go through another round or two of proofreading and editing. There are several places a word is spelled correctly, but it isn't the correct word needed. Yes, there's at least one instance of "your" instead of "you're", but more often it is simply a typo and autocorrect issue: "ponding" instead of "pondering", "valved" instead of "valued." If it's at all possible to make some minor proofreading changes this book will go from a good book to a great book. I'm really hoping this is possible because I want to gift this book to several friends, but as it stands the incorrect words often take away from the story.Even so, I still recommend reading this book. It took me less than 24 hours to read because I could hardly put it down! This is not just an Appalachian Trail story, but a story about standing up for our rights and what it means to be a true American hero. Thru-hiking The Appalachian Trail is an extraordinary challenge by itself, but to do so against corrupt politicians, the crooked media, and clueless social media cowards aligning against you is the definition of the heroic American spirit.Ryan’s story captures the essence of The Trail, and how powerful the small alliance of personal will and desire, a Trail family, The Trail communities, and loved ones back home can help a thru-hiker overcome gigantic odds.Well done Ryan!
